Big Creek has bentgrass greens and zoysia fairways. As with most courses in Arkansas, the bentgrass greens require a lot of water in summer which will cause the greens to be on the softer side during the warmer months. There are five sets of tees to choose from, ranging from 5000 yards to 7300 yards.
Big Creek has a variety of lengths for the par 4s, from the short 3rd and 16th to the long 7th. The 3rd provides who landing areas, a wider area to the right and a narrower area to the left, split by several bunkers. It allows the more aggressive player to take on the direct line to the green by going up the left side. Several of the par 3s (the 4th and 6th specifically) have undulating green complexes.
Favorite Golf Holes at Big Creek Golf and Country Club
The above-seen par 3 4th is the best par 3 on property. It is a shorter hole and forces the player to carry their approach the right distance. If the distance or direction is slightly off then the player could be facing a tough two-putt. If the distance or direction is significantly off then the golfer is going to have a tough time making a bogey.
The 10th is a par five which gives the player a chance to go for the green in two after a good drive. Choosing to go for the green is not without great risk as the green is surrounded by water on three sides. A decision to layup is not a guaranteed success either as the water surrounding the green also narrows the landing area significantly near the closer a layup gets to the green.
Practice Facilities
Big Creek has nice practice facilities with a grass tee range, chipping green, and putting green. The chipping green is adjacent to the driving range which allows for a player to practice varying lengths of pitch shots if the range is not too busy. The chipping green also includes a practice bunker. The driving range has three levels of tees so there is plenty of room to move the ropes and keep the grass fresh.
