Burns Park Golf Course Review

North Little Rock, Arkansas

Overview

Burns Park Golf Course is a municipal course located just north of Interstate 30 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Burns Park championship course provides a municipal golf experience that is straightforward and leaves a lot to be desired architecturally. Much of the course is on a flat piece of property with holes 10-13 providing the only land movement on the course.

The Tifton Bermuda greens are small and many have a significant amount of slope. Some of the slopes are severe enough that the green speeds need to be kept on the slower side in order to keep the greens playable.

The course requires minimal strategy off of the tee as there are no fairway bunkers and few doglegs. The hazard which runs down the entire right side of hole 4 and the creek on hole 11 are the only hazards that come into play off the tee, except for possibly the pond in front of the green on hole 15 for the extremely long hitters on a dry summer day.

Favorite Golf Holes at Burns Park

Hole 10 is the best hole on the course because of the interesting green complex. The green has an hourglass shape that bends around a small bunker, allowing for interesting pin locations. A good drive is needed in order to have a wedge in hand if the pin is tucked in the back of the green behind the bunker.

Hole 4 is a par 5 that requires precision and requires the player to take on the risk of the ravine that runs down the right side of the hole. The green slopes severely from front to back right, which the player has to consider in choosing a club for the approach shot.

Least Favorite Golf Holes at Burns Park

Number 18 should be a strong risk-reward par 5, but the green site brings too much trouble into play except for the long and skilled player. The landing area for the approach is too narrow for a mid to high handicapper to attempt with a fairway wood or hybrid, while also not leaving that same player with a good place to layup.
